I realized the other day that I really only have two single girlfriends in LA. Only one of which that I go out with regularly. Sad, isn’t it? I am glad so many of my girlfriends have found someone great or have at least found a great guy to date right now, but since when does getting in a relationship mean you can’t ever go out drinking with the girls? Or heck, bring the guys along. I don’t care! Or even better, invite me to go out with you and him and his friends (I am sure he knows a single hottie I could hook up with), but alas, nope. They all hide away in couple-ville.
Ok. So I’ve recently decided to take a break from dating, a dating sabbatical of sorts. And a few of my friends expressed concern that this decision was based on my break up with Christian. Truth is, it doesn’t have as much to do with Christian as it does with every guy I’ve dated in the past two years since my college bf and I ended it: Harvard boy, Ghoster, Shaun, my old Calculus study buddy from high school, the Really Bad Kisser (My friends call him "Mr. Wiggles" Yeah. that bad.), the Wannabe Entertainment Lawyer, the Rich French Guy, Mr. 90210, etc. etc. Each one has been such a disappointment whether due to their own behavior, the situation, the lack of chemistry or their lack of kissing skills. Each one has done their part to push me further to the edge (Christian more than the rest). So here I am. Not really ready to date.
I talked in an earlier post about a resent job search at my office and the impression that two of the interviewees made (SEE Dress to Impress). On top of her impressive appearance and attitude, there were also other things that the woman did to secure her getting the position. After her interview with us, she took the time to sit down and hand write my boss a thank you card for considering her for the position and to reiterate her qualifications and interest in the job. I cannot even begin to describe how much my boss loved it. It fed into his ego. It made her look incredibly classy. And it also kept her in our thoughts as a candidate. So why do so many people skip this very easy and simple step when it really takes them about 2 seconds and $1 to do? I’m not sure. All I know is that is really goes a long way.
Now I haven’t done a real job search in a while (I’ve been working at my current gig full time for about a year now and doing odd jobs for them for about six months prior to that), but recently I got to be on the other side of the whole business of job hunting. One of my coworkers found decided to take a chance and move across the country to New York with a guy she is seeing, so my boss had to find someone to take her spot. While I wasn’t involved in most of the searching process, I did get to help with interviewing the two people he narrowed the search down to, and it was a truly interesting experience. My grandpa use to say this all the time to my mom. And now my mom says it all the time to me.
Ok. So I guess everyone is different and each person has different needs and desires, but every once and a while I am AMAZED at what people will put up with. Recently I had a few friends (yes, that means more than one person approached me on this) contact me saying that A2’s mom is completely psycho. I guess a few of my friends hadn’t taken the time to defriend Christian from fb and saw a few updates pop into their newsfeeds about him causing them to go to his fb wall and see a million and two post by the psycho. Yes. Not only does A2 post in Christian’s name on other people’s walls (I talked about that in Breakup Playlist), but her psycho-crazy bitch of a mom (again, psycho-ness was already talked about in Two Sides of Every Coin) retagged Christian in a bunch of photos and sent him some of those lame fb gifts and wrote on his wall a bunch. Can you be more insensitive!?
